Flashbacks recall Xena’s transformation from evil to good. But in the present, the “Green Dragon” has captured Xena.
Guard: Hey Xena I hear you were betrayed by a friend.
Xena: No. Not a friend.
This episode was sad and beautiful. There was definitely love between Lao Ma and Xena.
Xena: I could serve you.
Lao Ma: Of course you can. It’s easy to serve someone you love. You feel it will make them love you more. It’s like a good business investment.
How could Gabrielle bring herself to strike Xena just to elicit a promise from her? What right did she have? She had betrayed her for her own reasons and then whilst Xena is defenceless, she strikes her. Xena’s silent stare with a single tear rolling down her cheek brought tears to my eyes.
What Xena had with Lao Ma was very special. She had the opportunity to run the Kingdom of Lao, to be Lao Ma’s “Warrior Princess”. What Xena has with Gabrielle was no less special which makes Gabrielle’s betrayal extremely hard to take. The fact that Xena forgave her shows how much she loves her. Personally, I couldn’t do it.
Xena gets the opportunity to add to the “rift” by lying about killing Ming Tien. “What’s good for the bard…. ” is all I have to say about that.
Disclaimer: Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship suffered another blow (although Gabrielle doesn’t know it yet) during the production of this motion picture.
