With Daredevil: Born Again, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is getting a second life on Disney+ in 2024 with an 18-episode first season. He will be joined on the show by Vincent D’Onofrio, who reprises his role as mob boss Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced Daredevil’s return at Comic-Con on Saturday.
Daredevil is the crimefighting alter ego of attorney Matt Murdock. Fans have been waiting for a new series based on Cox’s character since Netflix’s Daredevil was cancelled in 2018 after three seasons. The rumours of a Daredevil revival began after Daredevil (Cox) appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio) appeared in Hawkeye on Disney+.
The Marvel Netflix series, including Daredevil and The Defenders, moved to Disney+ this spring after the rights reverted to Disney, sparking speculation about a new instalment. It was revealed in May that Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord would write and executive produce a new Daredevil series for Disney+.
Additionally, Cox will reprise the role as part of Disney+’s upcoming series Echo next year, and voice him in the animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year.
The actor also made an appearance as Daredevil in a She-Hulk: Attorney at Law trailer unveiled today in San Diego, though his casting in that show hadn’t previously been announced. That series starring Tatiana Maslany debuts on Disney+ on August 17.
Other Marvel streaming series mentioned by Feige during the presentation and coming in 2023 include Secret Invasion, coming in spring; Season 2 of Loki, coming in summer; Ironheart, coming in fall; and Agatha: Agent of Chaos, coming in winter.
