A new trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was released, showcasing Captain Pike and the original crew of the starship Enterprise.
The new promo features some strange new worlds the crew will visit and shows Captain Christopher Pike’s return, played by Anson Mount. We get a glimpse of Spock, who will again be played by Ethan Peck. The trailer is narrated by Rebecca Romijn, who will reprise her role as Number One, the Enterprise’s original second-in-command. Watch the trailer below.
Strange New World’s version of the Enterprise’s original crew made their first appearance in Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season, where they supported the crew of the Discovery in defeating a renegade AI that threatened to destroy all biological life.
Discovery’s rendition of Captain Pike, Spock and Number One proved to be one of the most praised aspects of that show’s second season, and a spinoff starring the crew was announced in 2020. Now that Discovery has travelled to the far future of the Star Trek timeline, Strange New Worlds will act as a bridge between the first two seasons of Discovery and the start of the Original Series.
Strange New Worlds has many legacy characters from the original series and some new ones. The series also stars Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr M’Benga. Additionally, Christina Chong will play La’an Noonien-Singh, a new character whose origin could have something to do with Khan Noonien-Singh, the villain from the Original Series and Wrath of Khan.
This will be the fifth new Star Trek series since 2017, as Paramount continues to use the franchise to support its expansion into the streaming market.
Star Trek: Discovery is currently in the middle of its fourth season on Paramount+ and was recently joined by the second season of Star Trek: Picard, which premiered on 3 March. Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy, the franchise’s two animated spinoffs, will also continue, with the Lower Decks series airing its third season later this year. The first season of Prodigy recently concluded, and a second season is already being produced.
The latest Star Trek adventure will debut on 5 May, streaming exclusively on Paramount+.
