Profiled: The Black Man is a docuseries executive produced by Tina Knowles-Lawson and examines the origins of the widespread stereotypes that have pervaded society and impacted the lives of Black men in America for centuries.
The official synopsis announces: “Through a powerful mixture of historical footage, real-life testimony, and commentary from an array of renowned thought leaders, “Profiled: The Black Man” aims to show the difficulties Black men have faced, both in the past and present-day, while also highlighting and celebrating the triumphs and resilience of countless extraordinary men. In addition, each episode will feature commentary from notable community members such as executive producer Tina Knowles-Lawson, civil rights activist DeRay Mckesson, activist Tamika Mallory, hip-hop culture icon Sway Calloway, the Grammy, Emmy and Tony award-winning Billy Porter and more.”
“The depictions we constantly see of Black men frequently minimises the depth of who they are. Society has characterised Black men by stories told through biased and racially tinted lenses,” Tina Knowles-Lawson said in a press release. “Profiled: The Black Men is a love letter to Black men telling them we see them and that they deserve to exist in this world in their fullness. I am excited to lend my voice to reshaping the way our men are perceived and shining a light on the true essence of the Black men that I encounter every day.”
Profiled: The Black Man is only available on Discovery+ and will premiere on 12 February.
Hosted by Tristan “Mack” Wilds, each week viewers can expect a mix of historical footage and real-life testimony. Stereotypes about Black men will be debunked with an episode dedicated to a particular subject matter. Here’s the schedule:

Executive producer Trell Thomas said: “For most of my life, I’ve always had to wonder how people saw me and constantly have felt like I was fighting an uphill battle based on many of the negative stereotypes that surround me and people that look like me. I wanted to create this series in order to give Black men a voice and the power to write our own narrative and tell our own stories.”
