Looking for hosting in all the wrong places

I spent almost two days searching for a good web host for our new company website. It’s been very interesting and I’ve learnt something about review websites.

Hostgator and Blue Host were coming up tops for WordPress hosting so I read tons of reviews. The reviewing sites always seemed to sing the praises of the service they were reviewing but the comments told a different story.

I finally landed on a site that was open and honest and explained that most of the reviewers are paid to say nice things. They can get paid quite a lot of money for saying nice things so whether the service is good or bad, they will sing its praises.

That helped me a lot as it also threw up a few links to some WordPress hosts worth considering. I went off and searched for customer reviews on the companies and I have two contenders. I may sign up with one for my own site and one for the company.

Things to consider

I went searching for “best WordPress hosting” it wasn’t until I read Yoast’s  commentary that I changed the search term to “customer review of XYZ hosting” which revealed more honest opinions. I still had to weigh up that fact that some customers may have had bad experiences where others have not.

If you are looking for web hosting don’t sign up after the first review, do your homework properly, yes even if it takes two days. It will be worth it in the end.
