The cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be joining Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard for the third and final season of the Paramount+ series.

LeVar Burton, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, and Brent Spiner will join Patrick Stewart in the final chapter of Star Trek: Picard. The news was announced on Tuesday, First Contact Day.

In the film Star Trek: First Contact, starring the actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation 5 April 2063, is the day humans make contact with Vulcans. As any Trekkie knows, this is an important moment in Star Trek history.

First Contact Day is celebrated worldwide every year on 5 April.

Patrick Stewart has mentioned in interviews that Picard will end with season 3, but this is the first time Paramount has confirmed it. Maybe they were waiting for this special day to make the big announcement. Watch the video below.

Stewart reprises his role as Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: Picard, the character he played for seven seasons in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Frakes and Sirtis appeared in a few episodes in season one of Picard, and Spiner has appeared in several episodes in both seasons.

“I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction,” said Terry Matalas, season three showrunner and executive producer. “So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honouring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the USS. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honour. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!”
