Game of Thrones enters Guinness Book Of World Records

2 September, 2015 by PashaO

Game Of Thrones has entered the Guinness Book Of World Records. I bet you can’t guess why.

HBO drama Game Of Thrones has entered the Guinness Book Of World Records and it’s not for the amount of tits and arse ever seen in one TV show. Nor is it for the goriest fights.

The show has been honoured in the new Guinness World Records 2016 book for Largest TV drama simulcast.

The second episode of season five entitled The House of Black and White was shown in a 173 countries simultaneously in an effort to thwart illegal downloading. The show beat the previous record set by CSI just five weeks earlier by two countries.

Thrones popularity has earned it the unwelcome record for most pirated television programme – a title the show has held since 2012, leading HBO to make the decision to broadcast episodes of season five around the world simultaneously to counteract the problem.

Earlier this year anti-piracy and security firm Irdeto found that in excess of 7 million episodes from seasons one to four of the fantasy epic were downloaded by people trying to play catch up in time for season five.

game-of-thrones-maisie_tcm25-393911Actress Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the series, was on hand to pick up GoT’s certificate. She said: “I’m so pleased for Game of Thrones to be a part of Guinness World Records, I’m going to tell my step brother as he gets the book every year for Christmas. I can’t wait to see the look on his face!”

Williams is scheduled to appear in the new season of Doctor Who when it returns this month.
