Is anyone else experiencing MCU fatigue?

8 June, 2022 by PashaO
Thor love and thunder

The MCU is ever-expanding, and I’ve never felt less excited about it.

After Endgame and since the launch of Disney+, Marvel has bestowed upon us a slew of content. We’ve had four feature film releases and five well received series.

There are four upcoming franchise instalments to look forward to with Thor, Black Panther, Ant-Man and The Wasp, and Guardians of the Galaxy and a host of planned series featuring previously unseen characters. It’s a lot, and I, for one, am fatigued.

Whilst I commented on TV being saturated with superheroes back in 2015, I was still enjoying the genre back then.

Since the launch of Disney’s offerings, I have watched Wonder Vision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki and came away thinking, okay, I’ve got that out of the way; what’s next.

I’ve yet to watch Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I did manage to rouse myself to watch Eternals, but I wasn’t in a hurry to see anything else after that. Now my watch list grows as I take a break from the superhero genre. It seems I am not alone.

The entertainment site Culture Crave recently posted a list of Marvel’s upcoming titles and asked which project fans were most looking forward to. The response was far from enthusiastic.

Im not gonna lie the abundance of shows that tie into the mcu is slowly killing my interest in most of marvel stuff https://t.co/szCe3HiPAp

Most of the responses signified that fans also felt a little fatigued with it all.

Damn Marvel fell off so hard after Endgame https://t.co/oQZbIoPPRE

Many fans reminisced about the good old days of phase 3. Some even believe the MCU peaked at Endgame. In Phase 4, both Shang-Chi and Eternals were released, but neither caught the imagination of the fans in the way Phase 1 films like Iron Man or Thor did. With the concept of a multiverse expanding the MCU’s playing field, bigger doesn’t necessarily mean better.

The MCU has been a great success – it’s the biggest movie franchise ever and undoubtedly will continue to grow. It has spawned a number of successful television shows and a growing library of digital content. And yet, I can’t motivate myself to get involved right now. Hopefully, it’s just a phase, and I’ll be able to return to MCU and look at what’s on offer with a fresh pair of eyes.

How about you? Are you still enjoying what Marvel has to offer?
