Xena: Warrior Princess – King Con

8 March, 1998 by PashaO

Poor Joxer is conned out of gambling winnings, then is almost killed by the gambling-den owner’s henchmen. So Xena decides it’s payback time.

The gambling tables turn out to be luckier than expected for Joxer, who wins 100 dinars. Titus, the establishment owner, asks Joxer for a double-or-nothing, but Joxer declines as he has to meet Xena and Gabrielle. Titus tells his thug son Leo to get the money back as Joxer leaves.

On his way to meet up with Xena and Gabs, Joxer finds two men arguing about who should cash in a gold nugget. Joxer is fleeced of 100 dinars, and his sword is taken, all without him realising he is being conned.

Gabrielle and Xena find Leo and friends beating Joxer to a bloody pulp. She chases them off. Joxer is almost dead. She vows to avenge Joxer. As a result, Rafe and Eldon, the men who took Joxer’s sword, have to explain to Xena why they have the sword.

Rafe and Eldon agree to help Xena get revenge (not that she gives them much choice). Rafe bets Eldon 30 dinars that he can get Xena to kiss him.

First, they screw around with my all-time favourite relationship, then they have the fragging cheek to throw a man of the week at Xena. For Pete’s sake. At least this guy had a bit more charm than the actor that played Ulysses. But he’s still not Xena’s type.

It was really hard to watch Joxer being conned out of his money and then be beaten for not having the money later. Regardless of what a prat he is, he’s still family.

Season Three Signature Tune: “Deck the floors with bodies all tattered. Fa la la la la la la la la. ‘Tis the season to be battered. Fa la la la la la la la la.”

Disclaimer: No Con Men were conned during the production of this motion picture.
