What is Clubhouse app?

24 June, 2020 by PashaO
Clubhouse ios app

You may have seen people on Twitter talking about Clubhouse and begging for invites. It’s possible you’ve seen links to Clubhouse rooms but when you click on them, you can’t gain access. So, what’s the big deal?

What is Clubhouse?

Clubhouse is an audio-based social media app that launched in March 2020 by software developers Alpha Exploration Co. The new platform allows users to join in with group phone calls and discussions with people they follow. Users can dip in and out of these phone calls, known as “rooms” at any time, and choose to either listen in to conversations that are happening or contribute.

Like most social media, users can follow each other, however, unlike with Twitter and Instagram, there is no central feed, with all action taking place in separate “room” forums where the topic is set by the room creator.

It’s similar to a panel discussion. If you’ve listened to podcasts or use voice notes then you’ll get an idea of what Clubhouse is about. If you’re like you might get a chance to ask questions and feed into the conversation.

 Exclusive club

The app is still in beta (under development) and is invite only. The beta testing group includes big names like Kevin Hart, MC Hammer, Deepak Chopra, Ashton Kutcher and Will.I.Am, alongside a number of high-profile members from the tech industry, making the platform one of Silicon Valley’s most talked about new products.

Every new user gets two invites so if you are lucky enough to know someone who uses Clubhouse, you can tap them up for an invite. The app is currently only available on iOS.
