The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus suffered a concussion on set on 11 March, but he’ll be back at work this week.
Reedus, 53, will resume work in Atlanta on 22 March. In a post on Instagram on Friday, the actor who plays Daryl Dixon on AMC’s zombie apocalypse series provided an update on his condition and thanked fans for their concern.
“Thank u for the nice thoughts it’s been a week. or two. I was in an accident. But getting better getting cleared and gonna be back at work Tuesday they tell me. And sorry bout Atlanta event I was looking forward to it,” he continued.
It’s not clear whether the accident happened while Reedus was filming. Reedus’ absence aside, AMC has pushed back production on The Walking Dead’s final wrap day a few days.
News of Reedus’ injury was first revealed in a social media post from Fandemic Tour that “Norman Reedus had to postpone due to an accident while filming.”
Reedus was scheduled to appear for part of one day at the touring conventions Fandemic Dead Atlanta show set for 18 March to 20. Reedus’ Boondock Saints co-star Sean Patrick Flannery, Fear The Walking Dead’s Jenna Elfman, The Walking Dead’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Melissa McBride, Seth Gilliam, and Cailey Fleming were set to attend the self-described “comic convention experience” at the Georgia World Congress Center this weekend. Veterans of the show David Morrissey and Sarah Wayne Callies were also due to attend.
The Angela Kang showrun zombie apocalypse series is currently halfway through its 11th and final season. The season draws on issues 175 through 193 of the Robert Kirkman comic book series and its Commonwealth storyline.
The Walking Dead has seen several on-set accidents during its run, including the tragic death of stuntman John Bernecker in 2017. Reedus himself has been previously injured before on set too. During filming in a barn on the fifth season’s Them episode in 2015, Reedus cut his arm up. The wound was reportedly captured on camera but never made the final cut.
Once TWD ends in late 2022 or early 2023, Reedus’ Daryl Dixon character and Mellisa McBride’s Carol Peletier will move on to their own spinoff.
