The 10-episode Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon seems to be taking shape as new cast members have been revealed.
Ryan Corr (Holding the Man), Jefferson Hall (Devs), David Horovitch (Miss Marple), Graham McTavish (Outlander), Matthew Needham (Chernobyl), Bill Patterson (Fleabag) and Gavin Spokes (Brexit) round out the cast of HBO’s upcoming series.
They join previously announced series leads Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon known as the Sea Snake, who becomes Hand to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons.
Here’s the full lineup.
Paddy Considine plays King Viserys Targaryen. Viserys was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings.
Fabien Frankel plays Ser Criston Cole. Of Dornish descent, Ser Criston is the common-born son of the steward to the Lord of Blackhaven. He has no claim to land or titles; all he has to his name is his honour and his preternatural skill with a sword.
Eve Best plays Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. A dragonrider and wife to Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Queen Who Never Was” was passed over as heir to the throne at the Great Council because the realm favoured her cousin, Viserys, simply for being male.
Ryan Corr Jefferson Hall Graham McTavish
Ryan Corr plays Ser Harwin ‘Breakbones’ Strong. ‘Breakbones’, Harwin is said to be the strongest man in the Seven Kingdoms. Ser Harwin is the eldest son to Master of Laws Lyonel Strong and heir to Harrenhal.
Jefferson Hall plays Lord Jason Lannister; he is the Lord of Casterly Rock and twin to Ser Tyland Lannister. He will also play Tyland Lannister, the crafty and calculating politician, twin to Lord Jason Lannister.
Graham McTavish joins the cast as Ser Harrold Westerling. Ser Harrold has served in the Kingsguard since the days of King Jaehaerys; he is a paragon of chivalry and honour.
David Horovitch Matthew Needham Gavin Spokes
David Horovitch will portray Grand Maester Mellos, a voice of reason and trusted advisor to King Viserys.
Matthew Needham will play Larys Strong, the younger son of Master of Laws Lyonel Strong, brought to court by his father.
Gavin Spokes joins as Lord Lyonel Strong, the Master of Laws to King Viserys and Lord of Harrenhal.
Sonoya Mizuno Emily Carey Milly Alcock
Sonoya Mizuno plays Mysaria. She came to Westeros with nothing, sold more times than she can recall, and could have wilted…but instead, she rose to become the most trusted — and most unlikely — ally of Prince Daemon Targaryen, the heir to the throne.
Emily Carey will play Young Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. Alicent was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.
Milly Alcock will portray Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. She’s the king’s first-born child, of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything…but she was not born a man.
Bill Patterson Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith
Bill Paterson will play Lord Lyman Beesbury, the Lord of Honeyholt and Master of Coin on King Viserys’s small council.
House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen. The series is based on George RR Martin’s book, Fire & Blood.
