Dougray Scott leaves Batwoman after 2 seasons

Dougray Scott has left the CW’s Batwoman after two seasons. His final appearance as a series regular on the show was in Episode 16, two weeks before the season finale.

Dougray Scott’s character Jacob Kane has been front and centre of the show since it premiered in 2019. He was commander of the private security firm the Crows and the father of Kate (Ruby Rose, Wallis Day), Mary (Nicole Kang) and Alice (Rachel Skarsten). Despite Jacob’s best efforts to mobilise the Crows to protect the citizens of Gotham City, he realised, in the end, it was doing more harm than good. In episode 15, Armed and Dangerous we saw him disband the group after he learned about its internal corruption. Shortly after, Jacob found himself in handcuffs after trying to help Alice.

Little did we know that his appearance in episode 16, Rebirth would be his last. Batwoman executive producer and showrunner Caroline Dries confirmed Scott’s exit in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “The story was just lending itself of wrapping up the Crows because we took such a hard stance against police brutality this season and really used the Crows,” she said. “Once we kind of made that decision — and obviously Kate isn’t staying on the show — this character of Jacob had sort of run its course, for better or for worse, through that storyline.”

“Having Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane on Batwoman was incredibly special for all of us,” Dries elaborated in a statement. “An actor with his pedigree and reputation elevates any project, and he had great chemistry with his castmates. We loved telling Commander Kane’s story for the last two seasons, and we will always leave the door open to have him return. We wish him the very best!”

Dries also confirmed to EW that Kate, who was brought back in Season 2 as a recurring character played by Day following Rose’s abrupt departure after Season 1, is gone, this time for good, with a planned exit. Kate left Gotham to search for her cousin Bruce Wayne.
