In the new series Patrick Stewart reprise his signature television role as the iconic Starfleet character, Jean-Luc Picard. The new Star Trek series will be the ninth television series in the brand’s history but the first one named after an individual.

The video shows Picard to be a shadow of his former self and his Starfleet rank and uniform are long gone.

The trailer starts with Picard approaching Data (Brent Spiner) in a vineyard where the android is dabbing at a canvas with a gloomy image of a robed figure on a sea cliff — but it’s just a dream. Picard wakes up and greets Number One but this Number One is just a dog, not his former first officer.

Picard is pulled out of his retirement when a mysterious young woman (Isa Briones), arrives seeking his help. At Starfleet headquarters, however, Picard is dismissively reminded that he is a civilian now.  “This is no longer your house, Jean-Luc.”

The trailer reunites Picard with some familiar faces including Jonathan Frakes as William Riker and Marina Sirtis has Deana Troi-Riker.  We see Picard struggling for credibility and frustrated by his exile from the illustrious Starfleet.

The cast includes Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Evan Evagora.
