Instagram launches video sharing

20 June, 2013 by PashaO

Instagram, the popular photo-sharing app that was acquired by Facebook, adds video feature.

Instagram\’s co-founder and CEO Kevin Systrom unveiled the new feature at a press event at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park.

\”Video On Instagram\” lets people create 15-second videos to share on the site. The feature is rolling out to all Instagram users on iOS and Android.

The feature includes simple editing capabilities as well as 13 new filters which have been created specifically for video.

As the most established photo-sharing service Instagram has over 100 million users – and Facebook serves around 15 billion images every day. The new video feature will impact a vast number of people because of the current reach of Instagram.

This is a clear move that pits Facebook more firmly against Twitter\’s Vine.

When asked why Instagram chose the 15-second time frame, as opposed to the six-second videos offered by Vine, Systrom said that 15 seconds was “an artistic choice” and stressed that he doesn’t necessarily say that one is better than the other. “It’s that Goldilocks moment. It feels just right.”
