Xena: Warrior Princess – The Titans

Season one, episode 7

In this episode entitled, The Titans Ever helpful Gabrielle releases three Titans who at first believe her to be a goddess. Things soon change when they discover that they have been fooled.

After a disagreement with Xena, Gabrielle wonders off into a cave where she finds a cult. They are reading from a scroll but according to Gabs who knows everything, the pronunciation is off. Gabrielle reads the scroll and wakes the Titans and wackiness ensues.

Gabrielle sets out with Crius to help Xena capture the evil Hesiod. She is excited about solving humankind’s problems with her new servants. Initially terrified, the villagers are reassured when the Titans begin fixing the damage caused by a recent flood under Gabrielle’s guidance. Xena remains sceptical and warns her friend that the Olympians may have had a very good reason for entrapping the Titans.

Gabrielle never struck me as the power hungry sort until now. She has definitely come a long way from the innocent that Xena tried to save in Dreamworker.  She gave her reasons for her actions and yet, it just didn’t sit right with me. Naturally things went completely out of control, Xena to the rescue.

Was Xena a little jealous of Gab’s friendship with the man of the week? I’d say. Definitely a touch of subtext here, not very heavy but there nonetheless.
