For me, it would still have to be “One Against an Army. Though “Adventures in the Sin Trade, part 1” comes close to it and was important in Xena’s development, I missed Gabrielle. That is what puts OAAA over the top for me.

And why this episode? It started out looking like a bit of fluff, and the situation got steadily worse and more serious. By the battle scene, I was more than ready for the release. The climax was stunning, and Xena was heroic.

It really was a classic. The writing was a lesson in plot advancement to aspiring writers. The sublime incidental music pulled the viewer into each emotional turn. And the acting was outstanding — which of course, I expect every week.
