Season one, episode 14
In a Fistful of Dinars, Xena is drawn into a treacherous treasure hunt that forces her to team up with a desperate assassin and a ruthless warlord–who happens to be her former fiancé.
Xena comes across an old friend Lycus (Richard Foulkes Jr) being attacked and tries to help. Lycus dies and Xena is left with a leather pouch containing one of four clues, this is what the men were fighting for. The clues lead to the location of the Lost Treasure of the Sumerian’s. Xena knows that part of the treasure is the Titan Key, which unlocks the Hall of Ambrosia where the legendary food of the gods can be found. She must act to ensure the secret stash is not found.
When Xena learns that an assassin named Thersites (Jeremy Roberts) already has two of the clues to finding the treasure, she has no choice but to team up with him in the search. Xena explains to Gabrielle in private why she must get to the Titan Key first, any mortal who eats Ambrosia becomes a god.
Together with Thersites, Gabrielle and Xena set out to find the owner of the fourth clue, an ambitious warlord named Petracles (Peter Daube) who was once betrothed to the Warrior Princess. The four team up to find the treasure but Thersites is not to be trusted and Gabs seems to have a crush on Petracles.
So far, apart from Hercules, we’ve yet to meet a man that is worthy of Xena’s affections. We certainly don’t meet him here. Petracles was a total douche.
A little subtext here as Xena warns her ex off of Gabrielle. Loved the assassin, what a ruthless b*****d he provided some nice comedy moments.
Disclaimers: “No Ambrosia was spilled, spoiled or in any way harmed during the production of this motion picture. (Thanks to the indefinite shelf life of marshmallows.)”
