Netflix dropped a trailer of The Sandman at Comic-Con. Tom Sturridge stars in Netflix’s 10-episode drama based on Neil Gaiman’s DC Comic series.
The Sandman is a fantasy world where when we close our eyes and sleep, another world awaits us – a place called the Dreaming, where The Sandman, Master of Dreams, shapes our deepest fears and fantasies. When Dream (Sturridge) is unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century, his absence sets off a series of events that will change both the waking and dreaming worlds forever.
Dream must travel across worlds and timelines to restore order and fix the mistakes he’s made throughout his vast existence, revisiting old friends and foes and meeting both cosmic and human entities along the way.

Gwendoline Christie stars as Lucifer Morningstar. At Comic-Con, Gwendoline talked about preparing to play Lucifer, saying, “I just went back to the comics. I know that everybody was so devoted to making those comics come alive. Also, when you’re aware that there’s a huge fanbase that initially felt underground, very special, not so many people knew about it, and then the love for it has really grown. There’s a kind of responsibility that I feel goes with that.”
The ensemble cast also includes Boyd Holbrook, Patton Oswalt, Vivienne Acheampong, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Mason Alexander Park, Donna Preston, Vanesu Samunyai (fka Kyo Ra), John Cameron Mitchell, Asim Chaudhry, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Joely Richardson, Niamh Walsh, Sandra James-Young and Razane Jammal.

“For well over 30 years, my part in Sandman adaptations was just to try and stop bad ones from happening,” Gaiman said in an interview. “And fortunately, I was always successful in this. … The determination everywhere to make this and get it right has been absolutely a breath of fresh air. This is Sandman being made for people who love Sandman, by people who love Sandman, and that is so incredible for me. It’s been so special. I feel like I’m on the cusp, and I cannot wait until people see this show.”
The Sandman starts streaming on 5 August on Netflix.
