Oh boy! The Quantum Leap reboot is even more of a reality as Raymond Lee has been cast as the lead in NBC’s hourlong pilot episode. He will play Dr Ben Seong, a successor to Dr Sam Beckett.
The original series was created by Donald P Bellisario and starred Scott Bakula and the late Dean Stockwell. It ran for 5 seasons from 1989 to 1993.
In it, physicist Dr Beckett accidentally becomes part of his own experiment and begins travelling through time as different people in different historical circumstances. He’s guided by his best friend Al (played by Dean Stockwell); whose disembodied voice leads Sam to where he needs to go and what he needs to do next. Together, the pair try to make things right for the people they encounter throughout their journey, hoping that each week will be “the leap home.”
The reboot is written and executive produced by La Brea executive producers Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt and executive produced by Blindspot creator Martin Gero as well as Quantum Leap creator, executive producer Don Bellisario and executive producer, co-narrator Deborah Pratt.
The reboot is set in the present day and begins 30 years after Dr Sam Beckett vanished after stepping into the Quantum Leap accelerator. A new team is assembled to continue the project in order to unravel the mysteries of the machine and the man who built it.
Using the Quantum Leap technology on himself, Ben Seong gets stuck in the late 1980s with amnesia, with the last part also reminiscent of Gero’s Blindspot.
Lee is currently a series regular on AMC’s series Kevin Can F*** Himself, which is ending with its upcoming second season.
Scott Bakula who is recently better known for playing Captain Jonathan Archer in the sci-fi series Star Trek: Enterprise has been in talks for possible involvement in the project.
