Jay Karnes and Brendan Coyle will join the cast of 12 Monkeys in season two.
Karnes, who was last seen by me in an episode of Grimm but who I most remember from his role as evil arms dealer Tyler Brennen in Burn Notice, will play a shrewd FBI agent in the 1940s named Robert Gale. Agent Gale believes a series of grisly murders may have something to do with a man named James Cole (Aaron Stanford), an outsider who Gale suspects might not be from this time.
Sounds like 12 Monkeys will be spending quite a bit of time in the 40s. I wonder if we will see Cole wearing a Fedora hat and a trench coat ala Humphrey Bogart.
Meanwhile, Brendan Coyle (Downton Abbey) will appear in the season première as Dr Benjamin Kalman, a former Markridge bioengineer tortured with guilt over the deadly virus his team gave birth to. Cole and Ramse (Kirk Acevedo) find him in Budapest and recruit him in their efforts to stop the Army of the 12 Monkeys.
So as mentioned by Kirk Acevedo at the 12 Monkeys’ Comic Con panel, Ramse and Cole will be buddies again. This is good news as I did enjoy the relationship between these two before Ramse decided the life of his son was more important than everything and everybody else.
Ramse became a total douche and at the end of last season, we saw Cole save him after he was badly injured. Cole also sent Cassie (Amanda Schull) to the future for Jones (Barbara Sukowa) to save after she was shot. At Comic Con, Executive producer Terry Matalas mentioned that Casey’s character will go from being the girl next door doctor to an apocalyptic baddass. This is exciting news and I can’t wait to see what baddass looks like on Casey.
Jay Karnes and Brendan Coyle join previously cast Battlestar Galactica star Michael Hogan. 12 Monkeys’ is slated to return in 2016.
