The CW has released the first trailer for its upcoming series Gotham Knights, which will premiere in 2023.
The Gotham Knights series is based on characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger for DC and is written by the Batwoman team of Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux, and Natalie Abrams.
Its basic premise is that Bruce Wayne is murdered, and his rebellious adopted son Turner Hayes (Oscar Morgan) and a bunch of misfit teenagers are accused of the crime. Turner Hayes is a new charcter created for the show. I assume The CW were not allowed to use Jason Todd (currently being used in HBOs Titans), Damian Wayned or any of the myriad sons and sidekicks Batman has had over the years.
Turner ends up forming an unexpected alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies—Duela (Olivia Rose Keegan), Harper Row (Fallon Smythe), and her brother Cullen Row (Tyler DiChiara) to find out who killed Batman and clear their name.
With no Dark Knight to protect Gotham, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been. But hope comes from the most unexpected places as this team of mismatched fugitives will become its next generation of saviours known as the Gotham Knights.

This is the series that the CW greenlit whilst cancelling established shows like Batwoman, The Legends of Tomorrow and 4400. The trailer looks pretty rough, but that’s to be expected from a first look pilot. One can only hope that the misfits can clear their names within the first season, as manhunts can be boring over a long period of time.
Supernatural’s Misha Collins stars as District Attorney Harvey Dent, who is hot on the case of the dead Batman.
Despite sharing the same creative team as Batwoman, the series is not part of the Arrowverse, so don’t expect any crossovers with the few remaining Arrowverse shows, The Flash and Superman and Lois and Stargirl.
