Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Shohreh Aghdashloo has joined the cast of Prime Video’s fantasy epic series The Wheel of Time for its third season. The show stars Rosamund Pike, Madeleine Madden and Josha Stradowski.
Last seen by me in the beloved TV series The Expanse, Aghdashloo will portray Elaida do Avriny a’Roihan, a highly anticipated character from Robert Jordan’s epic fantasy book series. Elaida is a powerful Aes Sedai of the Red Ajah—part of an elite sisterhood of women who can channel the One Power. As skilled in political manoeuvring as she is in channelling, Elaida has unfinished business with Moiraine (Pike) and Siuan (Sophie Okonedo) upon her return to the White Tower. She’s characterised as someone who believes the ends justify the means and will do whatever is necessary to achieve what she considers the greater good.
“The Wheel of Time” is set in a world where magic exists, but only women can wield it. The series follows Rand al’Thor, a farm boy who discovers he is the Dragon Reborn—a prophesied figure destined to either save the world or destroy it.
Season 3 will see multiple emerging threats: the White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah operates freely, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken pursue the Dragon. Particularly significant is Lanfear, whose relationship with Rand represents a crucial choice between Light and Dark for both characters. As Rand’s corrupted power grows stronger, he becomes increasingly unrecognisable to his allies Moiraine and Egwene, who must work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to darkness.
The series cast includes Daniel Henney as al’Lan Mandragoran, Zoë Robins as Nynaeve al’Meara, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Dónal Finn as Mat Cauthon, Ceara Coveney as Elayne Trakand, Kate Fleetwood as Leandrin Guirale, Natasha O’Keeffe as Lanfear, Ayoola Smart and Kae Alexander as Min Farshaw.
Aghdashloo is renowned for her Oscar-nominated role in House of Sand and Fog and her Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s House of Saddam. Her recent work includes voice acting in Netflix’s Damsel and the video game Assassin’s Creed Mirage, plus a role in the animated series Arcane. Her television credits also include 24 and The Punisher.
