Ryan Gosling has been pictured wearing a t-shirt depicting actor Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who while filming on the set of Barbie.
Gatwa, who stars alongside Gosling in the upcoming Margot Robbie film, shared the picture of the t-shirt (designed by fan Matthew Purchase) on Instagram.

“Dolls supporting Doctors,” Gatwa wrote. “Yass king. As if I couldn’t love him anymore.”
Showrunner Russell T Davies seemed to be moved by the support, posting on Instagram, “This is, genuinely, Ryan Gosling wearing a t-shirt of Ncuti Gatwa as Doctor Who”. He also joked, “We’re suing him, of course. Illegal merch #rulesarerules.”
Artist Matthew Purchase is selling the t-shirt and other items such as baseball caps, mouse mats and phone cases, which feature the design. Fans can buy online here.
Purchase doesn’t own the graphic on the t-shirt, so he will donate approximately 50% of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales to The Goboka Rwanda Trust.
Purchase previously tweeted that the BBC had removed the artwork from Redbubble, but the items have since been restored to the site. The official Doctor Who account tweeted about the artwork: “We love this almost as much as Ryan Gosling!”
Ryan Gosling is not new to the power of Doctor Who actors. The Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith starred in Gosling’s directorial debut, Lost River, in 2014, and at the time, Gosling told Digital Spy: “I was writing, and I heard [Smith’s] voice, Doctor Who was on TV.
“And he was doing a scene where he had a microphone, and he was literally ruling the universe just telling all these spaceships how it was gonna be. I know just as an actor how hard a scene like that is because I’m pretty sure those spaceships weren’t there. He was just killing it and I’ve never really seen anyone about that looks like him or is like him.”
Gosling and Gatwa’s upcoming film Barbie is set to release on 21st July 2023.
Both actors are said to portray different versions of Ken in Barbie, alongside Simu Liu. Various versions of the title character are reported to be played by Margot Robbie, Issa Rae and Hari Nef. The cast includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, and Emma Mackey.
