Doctor Who celebrates Rose Tyler’s iconic moments

4 October, 2021 by PashaO
Rose Tyler and the Doctor

The BBC has released a Doctor Who video compilation of Rose Tyler’s iconic moments. Rose played by Billy Piper, was the first new Who companion and it’s only right and proper that she’s honoured in this way.

When Doctor Who came back in 2005, Rose Tyler presented a relatable character for many Whovians new and old. And paired against Christopher Eccleston, the pair made the re-entry into the Whoniverse a success.

Moments in the video include the very first episode with the plastic Autons, where ordinary shop worker Rose, meets the Doctor and is introduced to otherworldly events. That episode got me hooked because those things scared the pee out of me. Think about it, mannequins are everywhere, just glaring at you from shop windows.

Father’s Day is one of my favourite Rose episodes. Although the Doctor is disappointed in Rose for trying to save her own timeline by saving her father’s life, I completely understood her need to try. Piper acted her arse off in that episode. It’s hard to believe that Doctor Who helped to launch her acting career.

For me, Rose worked best when she was paired with Nine. The introduction of her unrequited love for Ten made some episodes unbearable for me which is why Rose is not my favourite companion. Of course, I blame the writers for this. Rose also had many moments where she saved the day and the Doctor. These storylines were empowering for us ordinary people, to watch someone who doesn’t have the Doctor’s knowledge and expertise find solutions to save the day.

You can watch the compilation below.

I got quite nostalgic watching this as meeting the Doctor through Rose’s eyes was a wonderful experience. In the words of the Doctor, “Rose… before I go, I just wanna tell you, you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And do you know what? So was I!”
