HBO has released the first official images of the Game of Thrones ten-episode prequel series, House of the Dragon which was co-created by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal.
Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood, the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen.
The images, feature series stars Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith and Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon known as the Sea Snake, who becomes Hand to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons.
Olivia Cooke plays Alicent Hightower. She’s the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms. She was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his innermost circle; she possesses both a courtly grace and a keen political acumen.
Rhys Ifans plays Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, who loyally and faithfully serves both his king and his realm. As the Hand sees it, the greatest threat to the realm is the king’s brother, Daemon, and his position as heir to the throne.
Emma D’Arcy plays Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The king’s first-born child. She is of pure Valyrian blood, and she is a dragonrider. Many would say that Rhaenyra was born with everything…but she was not born a man.
Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen. The younger brother of King Viserys and heir to the throne, Daemon is a peerless warrior and a dragonrider who possesses the true blood of the dragon. But it is said that whenever a Targaryen is born, the gods toss a coin in the air…
Steve Toussaint plays Lord Corlys Velaryon aka “The Sea Snake.” The lord of House Velaryon, a Valyrian bloodline as old as House Targaryen, “The Sea Snake,” is the most famed nautical adventurer in the history of Westeros. He built his house into a powerful seat that is even richer than the Lannisters and that claims the largest navy in the world
House of the Dragon also stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria.
The House of the Dragon pilot script that landed the series order was written by Ryan Condal. Condal is also show running the series alongside Game of Thrones veteran Miguel Sapochnik. Sapochnik, will direct the pilot and additional episodes.
