Xena: Warrior Princess – A Necessary Evil review

Season 2, episode 14

valesca-necc-evil-xena

In order to stop the evil, and now immortal, Velasca from hunting down Gabrielle, Xena must unleash an even more depraved immortal to vanquish her…Callisto.

A Necessary Evil - Callisto

I loved this ep.  Xena and Gabrielle took a chance in enlisting Callisto’s help but, Callisto took a bigger chance in trusting them, silly girl.  Before helping them, Callisto insists that Xena stand up in front of a crowd and apologise for what she did to Callisto’s family. No big deal for Xena as a little bit of embarrassment outweighs the amount of lives that are at stake.

Having grown very fond of Callisto, I was a bit gutted when Xena and Gab trapped her.  I was glad to see the back of Velasca though. Talk about bitter and twisted! Did you notice the Callisto and Xena subtext? Well watch it again!

If you’re lost as to Callisto’s new found immortality check out the Hercules episode Surprise. Check out the list of Callisto episodes. You’re welcome.

Disclaimer: The reputation of the Amazon Nation was not harmed despite Velasca’s overly radical adherence to an otherwise valid belief system.
