Since its final season, Game of Thrones fans have lambasted the show for all manner of dastardly deeds. From mishandling plot points, rushing through story lines and giving characters unearned hero moments, to giving characters undeserved or untimely deaths.
Once lauded as one the best shows on TV, it has now become the show that people dare not speak its name for fear of causing trauma. That’s unfortunate as the series still has some of the best storylines, best characters and character development ever. Had the ending not been such a massive disappointment to many, it would have been a great show to binge watch during this exceptionally difficult time.
If you are still traumatised from the season finale and can’t bring yourself to rewatch even the first six seasons, fear not. There is one series I can recommend to you that might just scratch your GoT itch.
As you may or may not know, Game of Thrones author George RR Martin based his bestseller on real events in Britain’s history. Namely, the Wars of the Roses, a bloody 30-year war between the House of York and House of Lancaster. As the great houses battled for the crown of England the crown changed hands seven times.
Normally fact is stranger than fiction but Game of Thrones had dragons and you won’t see them in the series entitled Britain’s Bloody Crown but the machinations and deadly deeds of royalty is fascinating and sometimes feels stranger than fiction.
This is a four-episode documentary series with re-enacted battle scenes and royal shenanigans. Watch as historian Dan Jones tells the compelling story of the real game of thrones. Find out what happens to single mother, Margaret Beaufort as she plays the game to ensure the safety and security of her son amidst all the bloody battles and scheming of the royal court.

Thank you. I was a bit sceptical but this was a really interesting series despite the lack of dragons. Time well spent. I quite like Dan Jones too so I’m off in search of more of his documentaries.
