It should come as no surprise to Haven fans that Syfy has called time on the troubles.
The network confirmed that Haven‘s fifth season will be the last. I am extremely disappointed at the news but I’m not shocked. Syfy has been dicking about with the series since it greenlighted 26 new episodes of the show last year. The first 13 episodes premièred in September 2014 and we have to wait until 8 October 2015 to see the final 13 episodes. This is a change from the previously reported date. If this isn’t dicking about, I don’t’ know what is.
I shouldn’t complain too much as at least we get to say goodbye. It could have been worse; Syfy could have shelved the remaining episodes. Haven is the last series hanging on from the early Syfy rebranding days when it decided to feature more lighter, family-friendly shows. The network promised last year that it was moving back to “quality serialisation.”
Showrunner Gabrielle Stanton told TheWrap that the series finale has been left open. “We think the fans will be satisfied,” she said.
“I’m sure as a fellow TV fan, there’s nothing more annoying than when a show kind of feels like it might be wrapping up, but they just don’t address it, they don’t come to any kind of satisfying conclusion,” she said. “I always think that’s cheating the audience a little bit, of a nice satisfying ending. So we really looked at these 13 episodes as if… If we were indeed going to end, what would be the best ending we could possibly do for Haven?”
Stanton also revealed that the producers are in talks with other network executives about the show’s fate. They are also open to the possibility of doing a TV movie for the sake of the fans. I’d love to see that happen but won’t hold my breath.
Haven has always been a 13 episode series so looking at the glass half full, we can say its ending in its sixth season.
I’m still a little too annoyed to posit theories about how it will all end but if you have thoughts, please feel free to hit up the comments.
