Netflix has announced the premiere date for its anime film, The Witcher: Nightmare of the the Wolf along with a teaser video.

The film will focus on Geralt’s mentor Vesemir, a cocky young witcher who delights in slaying monsters for coin. When a dangerous new power rises on the Continent, Vesemir learns that some witchering jobs are about more than just money.

We learn how Geralt became a witcher and “how did he learn the things that he’s going to teach Ciri,” executive producer Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich explained, adding that the film will also explore the origin of magic and how the world of the Witcher has changed over many generations, as well as the evolution of the witchers’ relationship to the mages. “The possibilities feel endless,” Schmidt-Hissrich said.

Writer and producer Beau DeMayo added that he “wanted to focus on a story that was very personal to The Witcher world and that felt very human.” He called it “a Gothic romance with a ton of action.”

Nightmare of The Wolf will premiere Monday 23 August 2021.
