Season four, episode 6
The writers of Pretty Little Liars were probably sitting in the writer’s room feeling guilty about the lack of reveals in the season so far, so they came up with this week’s Under the Gun to explain themselves. I imagine someone saying this:
We totes copped out for four seasons and are fast becoming worse than Lost with the unanswered questions, let’s throw the viewers a bone with this episode or at least explain to them again why we can’t give them want they want.
It’s been made clear over and over that ‘A’ knows all and sees all. We also know that ‘A’ has threatened the Liars not to let on about what they are being subjected to. So yeah we get it, don’t tell or I will mess you up. But it doesn’t stop a viewer from screaming at the screen “Do something you fool” when the girls behave in ways no real life person would.
This week despite being begged by Hanna not to say or do anything that would spur ‘A’ into framing Hanna’s mum for Wilden’s murder, Emily decides to break the rules and defy ‘A’.
Knowing that Hanna could not do anything to save Ashley, Emily decides to use the tape from Detective Wilden’s car to point the police in Melisa’s direction instead. Of course it backfires but at least she was willing to try. Instead of a tape of Melissa and friends dragging Wilden off into the woods, the police get a tape of someone in an Emily mask holding a sign that says ‘guilty’. Ouch. It makes me feel a little bit better knowing that not everyone is willing to take stuff lying down.
I gotta say, I am over the overuse of masks in this show.
Naturally I feel bad for Hanna’s mum who was arrested for Wilden’s murder but I doubt ‘A’ intends to let things go that far. If you take away Hanna’s mum what will ‘A’ have left to bargain and threaten with? Caleb? Hanna’s dad? Right now, Ashley is more important to Hanna than both those guys.
Whilst Emily was coming up with crazy plans and Aria was being branded a slut for sleeping with Mr Pedo Fitz (I want to rant about this storyline but not now), Spencer and Toby go looking for Mrs Grunwald the head of a sorority at Cicero University. This flimsiest of clues was thrown up in last week’s episode and Spencer wants to basically ask her if it was her on the other end of the phone speaking to Ali or something. I dunno, sometimes what these girls see as clues I see as big fat red herrings leading them into danger or more unanswered questions. Anyhoo…
Spencer and Toby arrive in Ravenswood and it’s a creepy arse town where dead birds randomly fall out of the sky onto the bonnet of cars and creepy townsfolk flock to a cemetery at the sound of weird singing.
This is an intro to Ravenswood, a new spin-off show to Pretty Little Liars. Ravenswood is a neighbouring town to Rosewood (where the Liars live). In this eerie town there is a mysterious curse that has plagued the town for generations. The show will centre on five strangers who become united when they are directly affected by Ravenswood’s curse. The new show is due to premier in October.
I want to say that I am looking forward to some new supernatural shenanigans but as it’s directly related to Pretty Little Liars I am wondering if I will be setting myself up for super frustration.
As it is Toby and Spencer’s visit yielded no real fruit. Mrs Grunwald claimed not to know what Spencer was talking about. The only thing they managed to find out is that Shana is somehow linked to the town and Jenna allows Shana to drive her car. No real clues then. Oh well there’s always next week.
