In my review of last week’s Haven episode, Power, I totally called it when I said that Kira Fletcher was alive and that her fiancé Tony had a dark secret. Let’s take a moment to do a happy dance before discussing this week’s episode, The Trial of Nathan Wuornos.
Last week I assumed Kira was ducking her fiancé Tony but it turns out she was injured and Nathan lied about her being dead because he didn’t want the townspeople to mount a rescue as they would discover William’s aether stash.
Getting to the bottom of the Darkness Trouble
Tony is baying for blood and wants to kill Nathan as punishment for Kira’s death. He believes Nathan would survive if banished so death is best. What a pill. To prevent that from happening Team Haven come up with a ruse to put Nathan on trial whilst Dwight and Charlotte go off and rescue Kira alone and bring back the aether.
As the trial is a delaying tactic Vince and Dave are put in charge of proceedings. When it comes to dragging out the truth and making things complicated there’s no one better than the brothers. Whilst the brothers are playing Tony like a fiddle, Audrey continues the investigation into the darkness trouble.
Audrey breaks the news to a grieving widow, Peggy, about her husband’s death. Peggy blames Nathan for abandoning the power plant and wants Nathan to die. It seems that Chinese whispers have made Nathan out to be the cause of everything that has gone wrong in Haven. She did pass on a useful bit of information though. Her husband and another guy, Faber Haskins, saw someone come out of the darkness unharmed so he must be the guy with the darkness trouble.
Nathan’s trial
Tony, Vince and Dave have set Nathan’s trial parameters based on some Greek trial back in the day. Speaking for his dead fiancée, Tony wants to kill Nathan. He claims Nathan has a long history of harming the town. He told the hearing about Moira, the barn and lots of secrets he shouldn’t know. He has information that Duke wanted to leave town and Nathan stopped him. Someone clearly has it out for Nathan and passed the info on to Tony. Because of the nature of the information, I’m inclined to blame Dwight but maybe that’s too easy.
In the world according to Tony, Nathan has had a hand in every bad thing that has befallen Haven. He claimed that Kiera knew Nathan’s dark secrets and that got her killed because Nathan had it out for her the same way he has it out for everyone in Haven. What a lying sack! I know he’s grieving but he really seems to have other more sinister reasons to want Nathan dead.
Killing men with Beards
In her investigation of the Darkness Trouble, Audrey discovers a group of goons headed up by Faber Haskins who are randomly throwing bearded men into the boiler room to see if any survive. They were about to throw a bearded, hearing-impaired man named Grayson into the room when Audrey reminds them that their actions amount to first-degree murder. Things were about to get ugly when Dwight’s buddy, McHugh shows up.
In an effort to defend himself, Nathan tells the room that Kiera had told him that she changed her mind about Venice. Which means Tony can’t speak for her. Meanwhile, Audrey and Grayson discover a school photo of Tony with a beard.
When Tony is confronted he admits he shaved two days ago and that Kiera broke off the engagement that’s what activated his trouble. Audrey tries to talk him down telling him he needs to accept the break-up all the while darkness is smothering the room.
Tony conquers his trouble and admits that someone left all the info about Nathan in his room. He spaced out for a bit and when he came too, a file had been left for him.
Charlotte and Dwight manage to rescue Kiera and discover a cave full of aether. They show up at the school just in time to prevent the results of Nathan’s trial from being heard. I wonder what the verdict would have been.
Trouble Log
- Charlotte told Dwight the killing off of troubled people was a way to prevent a greater evil that lives in the void and feeds off of aether. She doesn’t know much about the evil and her people don’t want to know. She lost her husband to it.
- Duke is still on walk about and is teaching Little Miss Wants to Thief how to use her powers without killing herself. When Haley cuts herself Duke’s Blood Trouble emerges and it’s much worse than before. He hunts Hailie down until she manages to shut him in a storage container.
Looks like the Sandman has something cooking. He’s put Grayson and Audrey into a dreamless sleep but why?
