Mo Gilligan and AJ Odudu return to host The Big Breakfast

Mo Gilligan and AJ Odudu are set to helm Channel 4’s cult hit The Big Breakfast this summer.

The show was given a four-part order. This comes after the success of the one-off special of the show that the pair hosted as part of Channel 4s Black to Front Day of Black programming last September.

In April, the special won an RTS Entertainment Programming Award, and Gilligan and Odudu picked up awards for Entertainment Performance on the show.

The original Big Breakfast aired on Channel 4 from 1992 to 2002 as an anarchic alternative morning show hosted by Chris Evans and Gaby Roslin.

Mo and AJ present the big breakfast

Mo Gilligan is a Channel 4 staple, hosting The Lateish Show and co-hosting The Big Narstie Show on Channel 4. AJ Odudu is a presenter for Channel 4 reality show The Bridge and has appeared on Strictly Come Dancing.  She has established herself as one of British television’s most in-demand presenters.

Lifted Entertainment, part of ITV Studios, is producing the four-parter, which is expected to have a longer run if it performs well.

“There really is nothing like The Big Breakfast on our screens,” AJ said. “I loved hosting it last year, and I am looking forward to being back at the house to kick off summer weekends on this now award-winning show.”

Mo added: “I love being part of this incredible history making show. The whole team are so spectacular, and I have so much fun working with AJ – she’s one of the best in the business. And now a live summer series? LET’S GO!”

Channel 4 Senior Commissioning Editor Vivienne Molokwu added: “I genuinely believe that the Black To Front Project unearthed one of the best presenting double acts that telly has seen in some time in bringing Mo and AJ together for The Big Breakfast, so it’s absolutely no surprise that we’re reuniting them for more early morning madness and making them a regular staple of our summer schedule.”
