Batwoman cancelled by The CW

30 April, 2022 by PashaO
Batwoman

The Batwoman showrunner for The CW, Caroline Dries, has announced on Twitter that the DC superhero show will not be returning for a new season.

In a Tweet, Dries said, “Just got the sad news that #Batwoman will not be seeing an S4. I am bummed, but full of gratitude. What an honour to make 51 episodes. So many inspiring, brilliant people contributed to this series. Thank you producers, cast and crew. Thank you, fans! We love you.”

Fans speculated that the show’s future was in jeopardy after last month’s third and now final season.

Batwoman premiered in 2019 as part of The CW’s DC universe of TV shows. The series originally starred Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin, who takes on the role of Batwoman in her cousin’s absence.

Rose announced she would be leaving the show after the first season, with both Rose and CW providing different reasons for the split. The original plan was to recast Rose’s character, but this changed, and instead, Batwoman’s title was inherited by a new character, Ryan Wilder, played by Javicia Leslie.

When The CW failed to include Batwoman in its announcement of renewals for several popular shows, including The Flash, Riverdale, and Superman & Lois, there were concerns that the show would be cancelled.

However, despite a fan campaign on social media to #renewbatman, which even caught the attention of Leslie herself, who tweeted: “Wow!!!!! We love y’all so much!!!” it was not meant to be.

Leslie responded to the cancellation news in an Instagram post saying: “I was taught that words have power and we speak our life into existence. Well, I spoke this role into my life, and what an honour it has been to watch it play out exactly how it was meant to. Family, this Bat Team is ours…HERstory was made and it can never be taken.”
