Fringe – Peter

2 April, 2010 by PashaO
A young Walter Bishop in Fringe episode Peter

Season 2, Episode 16

Synopsis: Walter tells Olivia about the events in 1985,  including how Peter ended up where he is today and what happened to the boy’s mother, Elizabeth Bishop.

I often wonder what I’d do when Lost ends and then I watch Fringe and think, I’ll be fine. In fact, I prefer Fringe to Lost right now.

We’ve had hints since season 1 that Peter (Joshua Jackson) isn’t all he seems and Walter (John Noble) finally confirmed it to Olivia (Anna Torv) in this episode.  Peter is a walking, talking fringe event. Now if she can just keep her mouth shut!

I love Walter. He takes crazy to another level and makes it more palatable for those with good mental health. He’s a gentle loving father who just happens to be a mad scientist. It makes absolute sense that after losing his own son, he would cross universes to save the life of his son’s copy. Bringing him back and then keeping him? Well, I don’t think he was thinking straight at all but I understand his motivation. The loss of a child is devastating and Walter seems like he was always on the verge of tipping over the edge. When Peter died, it was game over for his mental reasoning.

John Noble has a craggy face and I think the make up people did a decent job of making him look younger. There are people out there who have a face that looks old by the time they are 30 but by the time they are 50 they grow into it. He has that sort of face, therefore the flashbacks didn’t bother me the way they bothered other people. It’s all about the storytelling people. If you are watching Fringe you’ve already agreed to suspend belief, surely you can take it a step further and convince yourself that Noble looked young enough to pull it off.
