Jerry Doyle dead

Jerry Doyle, the actor and libertarian talk radio host, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 60 in his Las Vegas home. Doyle is best known for his iconic role as Michael Garibaldi on the cult science fiction series Babylon 5.

Born in Brooklyn in 1956, Jerry Doyle initially set his sights on becoming a pilot. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and worked as a corporate pilot. However, he felt a calling for a different path and decided to pursue a career in acting. In the 1980s, Doyle transitioned to become a stockbroker before relocating to Los Angeles to embark on his acting journey.

Doyle’s acting career began with guest roles on popular shows like Moonlighting and The Bold and the Beautiful. However, it was his breakthrough role as constable Michael Garibaldi on Babylon 5 that catapulted him to stardom. Created by J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5 is set in the 23rd century and revolves around the lives of humans and aliens on the space station Babylon 5. Doyle’s character, Garibaldi, served as the show’s everyman, bringing a relatable and down-to-earth presence to the series.

Jerry Doyle’s role as Michael Garibaldi on Babylon 5 earned him a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim. His character’s struggles with alcoholism and his journey towards recovery resonated with many viewers. Doyle’s portrayal of Garibaldi’s complex emotions and unwavering moral compass made him a standout in the series.

Babylon 5 was not just another science fiction show; it was a groundbreaking series that tackled political and social issues while delivering captivating storytelling. The show’s unique premise of a space station serving as a hub for diplomacy and conflict resolution resonated with audiences. Throughout the series, Doyle’s portrayal of Garibaldi provided a voice of scepticism and a moral compass amidst the complex narrative. His character’s love for Looney Tunes cartoons and old movies added depth and relatability to the show.

While Babylon 5 was undoubtedly the highlight of Jerry Doyle’s acting career, he continued taking on other film and television roles. He also explored his entrepreneurial side, establishing his own production company, which produced a series on World War II aircraft called Keep Em Flying.

Jerry Doyle’s involvement in politics began with a run for Congress in the 2000 election, where he faced defeat. However, this experience served as a catalyst for his political activism. He became a frequent guest on Newsmax Media TV, sharing his conservative views. Eventually, Doyle transitioned to hosting his own radio show, the Jerry Doyle Show, which gained a substantial following with an average of 3.75 million weekly listeners.
