Misha Collins to play Harvey Dent in CW Gotham Knights pilot

Former Supernatural star Misha Collins has been cast as Harvey Dent in the CW’s Gotham Knights pilot set in the DC universe.

Collins, who played trenchcoated angel Castiel on Supernatural, announced his casting on Twitter, saying: “I’ve asked if my version of the character could be wearing a beige trench coat over the grey suit. (I’m just not sure I’ll be comfortable in front of a camera without one.),” referring to his signature wardrobe on Supernatural.

What is Gotham Knights about?

Gotham Knights, written by Batwoman trio Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams, picks up after Bruce Wayne’s murder. His rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies after they are all accused of killing the Caped Crusader. Hailed as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names.

However, in Gotham, without the protection of the Dark Knight, the city becomes the most dangerous it’s ever been. However, hope comes from the most unexpected places as this mismatched fugitives team will become its next generation of saviours known as the Gotham Knights.

In the comics, Harvey Dent was once a great district attorney and a friend of Batman. He had a promising future, but all that changed when he was scarred on one side of his face. The accident drove him mad, leading him to become the villain known as Two-Face.

It would seem that The CW will be reimaging Harvey Dent for the Gotham Knights series. This version of Dent is described as “charismatic and dashing, with a swagger” and a hard-charging district attorney. His idealism and a single-minded quest for justice will tragically and ironically transform him into Two-Face, one of Gotham’s most feared supervillains.

Harvey Dent became Two-Face long before Batman died in other versions of the Batman tale. So the writers are redefining the character’s back story.

Collins joins previously announced series regulars Fallon Smythe, Tyler DiChiara, Oscar Morgan, Olivia Rose Keegan and Navia Robinson.
